22A – Elevator Pitch No. 3

1) The pitch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_VhyJ8imwo

2) A reflection on the feedback you received from your last pitch.
For the most part I think that the feedback I got from my last pitch did not elaborate on many ways I could improve. What I did want to build upon that I did previously was the explanation for some of the features and product variety. I figured that including a new feature would help to entice would be customers into coming through our store.
3) What did you change, based on the feedback?
I tried to speak a bit more directly to the camera, and I also tried to come up with something new to my grocery store and include it in the pitch. I felt that I could have done better overall on my delivery and made it less metered, but I feel that the content of my message was clear and informational.

21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

1) What was the general theme or argument of the book?
The book I chose to read for this assignment is The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users by Guy Kawasaki. The main theme of this book was teaching you use techniques and methods in ways that you could increase your exposure on social media.

2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
The book was able to connect with our learning material in ENT 3003 by explaining the importance of creating interest in your page. For our class this can be compared to reaching out to customers in order to generate business and sculpting the image of how we want our business to be perceived.
3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
An exercise that I would design for the class based on this book's information is have each student create a Social Media page on either Instagram, Twitter or Facebook. Next is having each group of students look at everyone else's assignments in the group, and rate which one they find to be the most captivating.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?
The biggest surprise for me when I was reading this book is how serious potential employers are about what content is seen or distributed on someone's social media. I do not use social media much if at all, so it was not ever something I was worried about or considered.

20A – Growing Your Social Capital

    Domain Epert

The first person I established a connection with is Tracy, a Manager of Produce at Sprouts. This person fills my domain expert parameter because of the position they hold at Sprouts and their experience dealing with goods requiring refrigeration and storage. I found this person through my mom, as her daughter is a nurse at the hospital my mother works at. I contacted them by getting her phone number through my mom, from her daughter. This person made sure I was able to know what was necessary for storing frozen or cooled products, such as meat or seafood. Tracy informed me what to look out for, what prices made sense, and how to store the food.

Market Expert

The second person I made contact with is James, a University of Georgia business graduate. This person fulfills my expert in the market requirement because of their internship experience with Whole Foods. James told me about his work at Whole Foods including research on their demographic. I was able to locate this person through my friend Sebastian, who goes to UGA. I sought them out by asking Sebastian for James' social media, and contacted him through Snapchat and Instagram. This person gave me a good idea of what I needed to look out for when considering who I am trying to cater to. He compared my idea to Whole Foods, and felt that it would make sense for me to try and appeal to a younger audience.

Supply Expert

The third person I made a connection with is Robert, Senior Project Manager for Siemens. his person is responsible for being my supplier expert because of the type of equipment and technology involved with operating a grocery store. I had known this person my mom's friendship with them and their wife, and I emailed Robert to ask about what he knew on the supply side of things. This person provided me an immense amount of advice for what to do regarding transportation and equipment.

Finally: Reflect

The importance of networking was highlighted immensely from my experience in this assignment. Much of my experts were found through my connections with people I already knew, or people that knew someone that knew them. I would say it differed from my past experiences because many of my networking experiences involved some type of event, rather than a one off occurrence.

19A – Idea Napkin No. 2

1) You.
I am a 4th year Business major at the University of Florida. I have a talent for writing, debate, and researching. I am skilled with Excel, and have some experience thus far in marketing and finance due to internships and extra courses. I aspire to attend law school after I graduate and specialize in contract law or corporate law, and hopefully obtain my LLM in tax law afterwards. This business would be something I would spend a considerable amount of time on if I had to insure it succeeded.

2) What are you offering to customers?

I hope to provide an efficient, affordable, and safe way for people to eat a ketogenic diet. It would be limited in its width but the depth of our options would allow people to eat many different options, all while remaining within their dietary restrictions.

3) Who are you offering it to?

The demographic that I can think of immediately is many middle aged, 45-64 year olds who feel a need to slim down, I would say many of them would even be men. But that only involves a somewhat large portion of our demographic, as others could be looking for a new diet to follow to improve athletic performance, or others because of existing health issues or dietary needs.

4) Why do they care?

People would want to pay for my product and service because of its ease, quality, and diversity. Much of the keto groceries would be more unique to a store like ours, because of  a wider extension of dairy products, meats, and even things like nuts, oils, or chocolates. The other benefit is people who follow keto will be able to purchase anything within the store and remain within their dietary boundaries.

5) What are your core competencies?

I am able to create a product that provides efficiency, quality, variety, and safety for a growing portion of our population. The advantages that shopping at a keto grocery store has will entice our targeted demographic, along with people who fish for some of our more select products that may not be available elsewhere.

In addition to these five elements, please spend a paragraph evaluating whether you believe these elements fit together or whether there are aspects of your business concept that are weaker / out-of-joint with the others.

I think that some of my more out of joint features are that I will not have a large variety of items that typically are found in grocery stores. I think this would put be back severely, but the size of the store also does not have to be immense right as we begin. I would say something that does benefit me more than it seems is that our selection would be more unique in its availability and diversity of goods.

For the "feedback memo" -- please summarize at least two main points that you took away from the feedback you received. Also, please describe how you incorporated the feedback into this idea napkin.

I did not receive any direct feedback from anyone in the class, but I did speak to my parents over break about this series of assignments. They mentioned that the limited variety would deter a good amount of people, but they also said if the right type of unique and quality products were available, they would shop at this grocery store to get these other items. I tried to include this in my consideration for this business, and felt it would be easier to buy other goods not seen as often in conventional groceries. They also said that the efficiency and ease for people wanting to at least try keto would keep customers interested in going.

18A – Create a Customer Avatar

For my customer avatar, they would have a wide range of hobbies. Some of these may include outdoor activities, others might be sporting related, or other hobbies like music and art. They most certainly would drive any kind of car, maybe an SUV, or a typical 4 door sedan. The types of TV shows my customer avatar would watch would include a wide variety, from historical fiction to fantasy, to sci-fi and so on. My customer avatar would have children, would even be children, could be childless, or have adopted children, any of these things are possible in equal proportion. Their favorite politicians would probably lean left, considering the idea of dietary changes and what keto is about. The age of my customer avatar would be from any age, but they would probably feel older than they are.

What I have in common with my customer avatar is wanting to eat healthy/healthier, and maybe some of our hobbies are the same. I do not think I have a lot in common with my customer avatar because this avatar is a very broad idea, considering the amount and type of people who visit grocery stores.

16A –What’s Your Secret Sauce?

1) Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique.

I think what makes me truly unique is

  • my ability to problem solve.
  • make connections between different elements that may not be easily recognizable.
  • make methods and processes more efficient.
  • my proficiency in writing and language.
2) Interview the five people who know you the best.

https://soundcloud.com/user-557220819/interview-1-mom

My first interview was with my mom, and her reply to the prompted question was that I was a focused and calm individual who worked through any pressure.

https://soundcloud.com/user-557220819/interview-2-robert

My second interview was with my step-dad Robert. He felt because of my tumultuous upbringing that I had a unique fortitude for life and differed in my views from others.

https://soundcloud.com/user-557220819/interviewjacob

My third interview was with my brother Jacob. He answered that I was not someone who beat around the bush, I did things straight away, and am an honest individual.

https://soundcloud.com/user-557220819/interview-with-joe

My fourth interview was with Joe, my old roommate. He said that I was very determined in everything I do, even if I was not the best per se. He said I have an eagerness for work and learning and am a go-getter essentially.

https://soundcloud.com/user-557220819/interview-4-chrissie

My last interview was with Chrissie, my friend from high school. She said that I was hard-working and that I also try to learn a lot from whatever subject I am focusing on.

3) Reflect on the differences.

I think there were some differences between how I see myself and how others see me. I think that what causes these differences is how I operate, versus how people actually see me operate. I would say my interviewees are correct about me, and the biggest correction I would make to my list from part 1 is that I would add I am determined. From what everyone else stated, I have a focus for my work, and a determination to get things done right the first time.

15A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

1) Find three people who would fit that segment and arrange to interview them.

I conducted my interviews with 3 people I had not interviewed previously. One of them was a friend from high school, the other was my younger brother, and the last interview was with my stepdad.
3) Begin with alternative evaluation.

Overall, the most important factor amongst my 3 interviewees was quality, immediately followed by price. My friend from high school stated that the reason she feels quality is most important is that in this situation, she wants her food to be as absolutely clean, nutritious, safe, and healthy as possible. Price was also a huge factor with how expensive it can be to get quality groceries. For my brother, he also felt quality was the most important followed by price. As for my stepdad, he was most concerned about quality, and did not care as much for price. I think this is because he is older, and has already established his career and has a higher level of disposable income compared to the other two interviewees.
4) How/where do they buy?

My friend from high school said she has no preference for whether she buys online or in the store, but for groceries, she says because of the limited options for buying online she would more likely go in store. My brother heavily preferred going to the grocery store, saying he liked to see what his product was before buying, and also seeing how it compared to other alternatives in person. My stepdad preferred to order his groceries for pick up, rather than delivery or even going into the grocery store. He felt that it was time better spent to just drive by Kroger's and pick up groceries instead of walking in and spending 45 minutes buying everything.
5) Post-purchase evaluation.

For all 3 interviewees, the most important factor for their post-purchase evaluation was how satisfied they were with the product. When it comes to groceries, if the food they prepared tasted good, and it sat well with them after their meal, all 3 interviewees would agree in saying it was a worthwhile purchase. If the food was not ripe, ready, or was not prepared properly before the sale, that would be a huge indicator of a bad purchase.
6) Report the findings.

Overall, each individual I interviewed had a similar answer for all 3 of the above categories. Where they differed slightly was how/where do they buy their product, with one saying they preferred a walk in, another saying they preferred purchasing for pick up, and another having no strong preference.
7) Draw conclusions.

I would say that within each of these categories, the segment as a whole felt similar in 2 out of 3 of these different terms. Where this segment deviates from their normal approach is when it comes to how and where they will purchase their product.
